Students to Cuba
Saturday, April 15, 6:30 – 8:30pm
Meet three Nebraskans who will be part of the 12th May Day International Brigade in Cuba, April 24-May 8.
More than ever solidarity with Cuba is important. Cuba and the United States established diplomatic relations in 2015 but since 1960 the U.S. government has maintained an embargo against Cuba, since 1903 occupies Cuban territory in Guantánamo, and still has policies aimed at ‘regime change’ to Cuba’s socialist revolution.

Phil Brown, Wyatt Nelson, and Taylor Thornburg will speak on a panel to explain why they are making their first trip to Cuba and what their action plans might be when they return. Last year more than 200 people from 34 countries participated in the Brigade, which is sponsored by the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). This is the first time a U.S. contingent will be on the brigade, at least 50 have signed up so far.

ENJOY OPENING MUSIC BY CHRIS SAYRE, Lincoln Folk Musician
ENJOY CLOSING MUSIC BY ROOT MARM CHICKEN FARM JUG BAND

Donations are welcome to help pay for the cost of the trip.

Genna and Jesse
Friday, March 4, 8-10pm
Genna & Jesse are defined by a unique alchemy born of the quirky chemistry, intricate vocal harmonies and ardent storytelling which infuse their songwriting and vibrant performances. With whispers (and sometimes roars) of folk, country, jazz, blues, art song, and popular music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, their self-chosen genre “acoustic-soul” doesn’t quite encompass what they conjure up in their joyful live shows and sensual, deliberate albums. These two shrug off music industry conventions in favor of doing what feels good, and this genre-defying dedication to being current and free has an exciting and irresistible effect.

Drawing inspiration from their romantic nomadic lifestyle, Genna & Jesse might best be described as modern troubadours, generously offering listeners glimpses of their always-moving world with something fresh, true and genuinely independent.

Genna & Jesse are currently touring internationally to promote their newest release, “Wild Enough To Try.” Their ongoing tour, which includes club venues, house concerts, restaurants, cafes, and festivals, is being done with as small a carbon footprint as possible.

Ace and Dan
Friday, March 4, 8-10pm
Ace Bettinger and Dan Cox make up the dynamic acoustic guitar duet, cleverly named Ace and Dan. For more than 25 years, Ace and Dan have each studied guitar and song writing. They have been acquaintances on the Lincoln music scene for many years and began playing and singing together informally about 10 years ago, exploring different sounds of American music.
